Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a great movie; original, fun, ballsy and utterly insane. Any film featuring a gun wielding CGI raccoon who’s best friends with a talking tree played by Vin Diesel is going to get some attention.

In this second instalment, great turns to ‘just good’. Vol 2 is very aware of itself, and that’s just annoying. Instead of just being funny naturally, it tries very hard to be hysterical, and some of the gags and funny moments are just eye roll inducing.

Peter now has a Dad, who’s technically God, and it’s all a little strange and a little ‘we can be as random as we like because we’ve got talking raccoon in our movie’. It makes out tonnes of stuff is going on, but technically not much happens at all.

On the plus side, its a colourful, fun adventure … But it’s technically just a stepping stone and another ‘episodic’ instalment from marvel that’s simply there to set up the importance of Avengers Infinity War.
